Clubs Day Debrief -- Milae

 

    The Clubs Day was very interesting because I was looking for a new hobby in Dunedin. I found some attractive clubs there, such as the movie club and the animal club. However, after talking with a member of the movie club, I thought it might be very difficult for me. They always have discussion time after watching movie, which would be quite hard for me. Eventually, I signed up to AAPES, a club for all things related to natural, such as tree planting, documentary nights, sanctuary maintenance, glowworm walks, camps, penguin volunteering. It sounded really fascinating because I love nature, especially animals. 

    At this event, I had many opportunities to meet new people. During that process, I used some tips from the video. I focused my energy on the right people. There were a lot of people from a variety of clubs, but I only focused on clubs which I’m interested in and asked about them. In addition, while listening to their explanations, I responded to them with curiosity. Those tips helped me network with new people well.

      Yes, some tips were very useful. I couldn't talk smoothly so I focused on listening, but actually I couldn't listen smoothly too.. just pretended to understand well!

    I agree that some clubs related to hobbies, like movie club is hard to keep up with conversation with club members.
    Well done that you used some method from the video! I'm sure that you will expand network quickly!

    Nice! You were strategic, focusing your attention on those who could open the doors to activities you want to be involved in and responding with interest to what those folks shared. I trust that you'll really enjoy the activities AAPES runs & that you'll build some friendships there that'll make your life in Dunedin all the more satisfying.

      I tried to apply some tips but actually I couldn't catch some parts of their speaking.. I really want to understand English fluently!

    Hello, Milae, this is so impressive that you adapted the Networking techniques that we studied in class. Moreover, I am very happy that we joined the AAPES club together with other friends to do interesting activities related to nature and animals together.

I like Dunedin for its vistas, historical buildings & vibrant cultural life. My favourite subject at high school and university was the history of art.
