High Tech Education -- Milae
When I watched this video, I was very surprised. The class using Artificial Intelligence system seems very controlling for students. It monitors how much the students are paying attention to class and transfer it to their teachers and parents. Also, it can know how many times the students check their phones and yawn. This video said these systems help boost their studying, but I think it can generate too much stress for students. I think Mental health is more important than the exam score. Actually, in Korea, a lot of teenagers kill themselves every year and one of the big reason is the high pressure from their studying. On the other hand, some technology used in the school looks very useful. For example, the chips in students' uniform tracking their location can insure their safety. However, in the point of students' mental health, I think this education system is not good.
As I mentioned, I think the mental health is the more important than exam score. So, the key to an education that makes a positive difference in the world is not the exam scores but allowing students to grow up with healthy mental.
I completely agree with you. I think their high concentration is not positive way, but just because they do not want to be scolded by their teachers or parents. I’m also concerned it causes more competitive society in China.
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, in Japan, many people commit suicide every year due to stress. There are various reasons, but there are cases where students taking exams have mental breakdowns due to the stress of studying, so this method is not very good.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting response to the use of monitoring technology in Chinese schools, Milae. I can imagine that the knowledge that your actions and responses are being so closely monitored might cause stress among some students. On the other hand if what is learned from the monitoring stimulates a school leadership team to introduce a more balanced and supportive environment for students, that would be a good thing.

I totally agree with you that student’s mental health is more important than having a good score because when students face to much pressure in study, it could lead to many mental problems in our society which are not their own faults. So, I don’t really agree with this high-tech method.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I was also concerned about students' mental health when I watched the clip for the first time. The gadgets definitely make pressures on students. However, as you said, I also think that using some technology are good solutions for solving problems in school.
