Restraint vs Indulgence -- Aoi

In Japanese high schools, there are many rules. For example, students must wear the same socks and bags, and they are not allowed to wear makeup, piercings, or accessories like necklaces. They also have to tie their hair.

Because of these rules, many students look the same and wear the same clothes.

At my school, even our indoor shoes, sports shoes, and school shoes were all decided by the school.

However, in New Zealand, I think the rules are more relaxed. Students can enjoy fashion more freely and wear different styles.

  1. I saw many students changing their hair colour and wearing piercings. What do you feel about this Restraint culture in Japan?

  2. Hello, Aoi, in Thailand, students have to wear school uniforms as well. But I also think that this has both advantages and disadvantages for students. So, I think to stay in a moderate way, not to be too strict or too flexible is good for students.

  3. I agree with you. In Korea, we also have many rules in school, but I think Japan has more strict rules. It's interesting.

  4. I agree with your opoinion. There are still strict rules in Japanese school, especially a public school. From my experience, even with relaxed rules, I don't think there's a significant problem with studying...(My hair used to be dyed while I was juniour and high scool student.)

  5. In New Zealand, the great majority of high schools require their students to wear a uniform. Free schools don't require them, though, and some schools relax this requirement at year 13. The debate over whether uniforms should be required and how strictly uniform requirements should be enforced is an interesting one. David :-0
