The Ideal School: My Vision -- Meri Obara
My ideal school is a place where students become able to realize the joy of learning and can gain knowledge and skills for their real life. This is because I am concerned that many students don’t like “learning” nowadays. According to the Hakuhodo Foundation, the number of students who don’t like studying is more than students who like studying in Japan in 2023. The foundation reveals some reasons for this. For example, a lot of students think that studying in school is not useful and meaningful, and the law is just enforced. Therefore, I think that such an ideal school is crucial for students.
For solving the problem that many students don’t like studying, I have four ideas of the best teaching methods. Firstly, students would study what they want and make a contract with teachers as an “assignment". Secondly, teachers would enjoy their learning by themselves and be an accompanist instead of an instructor. Thirdly, the school would form multi-age classes to create an environment where students can support each other. Moreover, the school would supply the programmes where students can have hands-on experiences and outings to find authentic things or meet professionals. In fact, similar ideas are being practised at Dalton where I attended. Through the education there, I could find my interest and notice the joy of learning. And I was also able to gain many useful skills.
However, this ideal school also has a drawback regarding that students don’t cover all study contents because they learn what they want and don’t follow textbooks. Despite that, students don’t need to, since students can search anything on the internet. Besides, I think that they would be able to gain more knowledge and skills by independent learning than by following textbooks.
In conclusion, through those ideas of the best teaching methods for students in my ideal school, students would be aware of the joy of learning and gain life skills. I believe that my ideal school would create a hopeful society.
